| Marie Leary Pease After leavng Corning I moved to the Bay Area where I worked several years for Household Finance Corporation and during that time I met my husband David. We have been happily married for 36 years. Twenty years ago we started an electrical company, Liberty Electric of San Mateo, Inc. out of the garage of our home. After a year we moved the business to Burlingame and this past year opened another office in San Francisco. Eight years ago we moved to Hilllsborough, California. We were hoping one of our daughters would want to take over the family business, but so far no luck. Amy (33) works in the Corporate world in San Francisco for Banana Republic; Melissa (26) is a high school English teacher in Torrance (So. Calif.) and Lauren (19) is attending college. We do not have any son-in-laws or grandchildren. Looking forward to it some day. When we are not working we enjoy traveling to Italy, Spain, Mexico, Jamaica, Hawaii and Grand Cayman Islands. I still have a fond connection to Corning since my dad is there and we have income property which we visit regularly. Looking forward to seeing everyone in October.... | ![]() | |
| CURT MARTIN After leaving high school, I attended Chico State for three years before returning to my farming roots in the Corning area. For a few years, I worked with my dad on his farming operation before launching out on my own.. Now, together with Sara, my wife of 36 years, I farm walnuts, prunes and olives on land near the Sacramento River east of Corning, We have two children, a son and a daughter. Both are married and living in Chico. Together they have given us three terrific grandchildren. We are fortunate to have them living so close to us and enjoy seeing them on a regular basis. When I am not working on the farm, I volunteer a little time serving on several boards and committees. I also enjoy collecting farm antiques, with my passion being for old equipment wrenches. Sara and I try to take a little time away from the farm every year. We have traveled to many of the National Parks across the U.S. and especially enjoy vacationing in the desert Southwest. I have no immediate plans to retire. I still enjoy what I do immensely. Every year of growing crops brings with it a new set of challenges. It never gets dull. I have been very fortunate to be involved in an occupation tha has been so rewarding on so many different levels. | ||
| Gerald Martin I served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1976. I then moved to Texas where I lived and worked until 1981. | Bonnie McFarland Budd Hello Class of 1969.forty years, hard to believe. Haven't seen a lot of you since high school although the past couple of years I find myself gravitating back to those of you who I have known since kindergarten. That's been great! Not much has changed with me really over the past 40+ I mean I'm still the same fun loving, crazy, daring individual I was back then. I do have some additions besides the extra pounds... and that is three great kids which brings six granddaughters. Who would have thought? Life has been exciting, lived on the edge most of it, but things were so normal and easy for us growing up in our protected little town of Corning it just seemed to be the next step. Left a day or two after graduation, lived in the bay area for the summer. Discovered that the life down there was pretty interesting. Septemember of 1969 attended Humboldt State , flunked out in 1970 had been playing with a rock band could have been part of the problem. Tried college again at Shasta, but that was just as much a disaster. Married in 1971 that lasted longer than college, but flunked out of that after about 12 years. Had several types of employment from 'news radio' to owning a couple of consulting businesses and now I'm a Regional Revenue Cycle Director for Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara . The climb was quite interesting, but a grand time every step of the way. Now retirement can't get here fast enough so I can add to my life experiences. I live in Washington State with my life partner of ten years, Lori and also have a residence in Foster City near by work. It's a commute, but we seem to master it. The kids are all happy; they are all within a few hours of me now that I'm back in California . We take great adventures together and I think that's what this time of life is all about. Hope you have enjoyed my profile as I have yours. Thanks, Bonnie Demo for all you have done to put this reunion together. To all of the class of 1969 enjoy what you have and live your lives to the fullest 'you never know what is around the corner. See you in another ten years with another bag full of life experiences. | ||
| Karen Meeder After high school I went to Shasta College and worked for the Department of Social Services for a few years. Roland and I married and we will celebrate our 35th anniversary in August. I went back to school, got a Masters in Speech Pathology/Audiology and have been working ever since at a job I love. I have two daughters, one step-daughter and eleven wonderful grandchildren. Being a grandparent is THE BEST! I'm still working as my husband is retired and needs to keep living the life he has become accustomed to! Hopefully I'll be able to see you on Friday night as we have to be out of town on Saturday and most of Sunday for a family affair. Have fun! Karen | ||
| Mike Metzger Class of '69 After graduating from Chico State in 1974, I became the youth director for Orland's Evangelical Free Church. I still see some of those 'kids' once in a while. I painted houses and businesses. I played fast pitch softball for the U.S. Olympics in 1984. When our team traveled to Mexico to play, they thought I was Chuck Norris! Finally after my unsuccessful attempts to convince them I was not Chuck I just decided to sign autographs for them anyway. From 1980 to 1992 I was the proud owner of Metzger Painting. After twelve years I grew pretty sick of painting. I graduated from massage school and opened up a massage practice, which shortly became a state licensed massage school, Chico Therapy Wellness Center. Besides offering a two hundred fifty hour certification course we also have twenty five advanced courses and eleven instructors! I have one son, Matt and three grand kids. I just got married this year to Ginger! I cant wait to catch up missed time with everyone! | ![]() | |
| Judi Moller Lopez My life has been wonderful so far! After graduation I took a job with the old 'Pacific Bell' telephone company. I roomed with Lorenzo Casia's sister, Ria (Pope), for several years. In 1973 I married the love of my life, and after 36 years Rick still puts up with me! After numerous moves (15 times the first year we were married and about every 2 years after that) and career changes (approximately 40 - true!), we've landed in Las Cruces, NM, having followed our daughter's family here two years ago when her husband took a job at New Mexico State University as their Cooperative Extension Pecan Specialist. My husband, Rick, and I are resident property managers for a mid-size self-storage facility. Discount Self-Storage, www.discountstoragenm.com, opened about a year ago and we've leased up quickly. The owners were pleased with our performance to the extent that they're sending us on an Alaskan cruise next month to show their appreciation. Many of you have traveled the world, but this is pretty exciting for us. We kind of consider ourselves 'hicks' and it's something we never even dreamed of doing! Our children and grandchildren are our greatest joy in this world! Our daughter, Charity and her husband, Richard, of Las Cruces, have a daughter, Esther, 4-1/2; son, Hendrik, 2-1/2 and 'Pancho', ETA January, '10. Our son, Chris, his wife, Christiana and their daughter - Autumn, turning 1 on Aug. 31 - live in Bellingham, WA. We cherish the brief visits with their family. This profile would not be complete, however, without an acknowledgement of the source of the joy, meaning and purpose with which our lives is filled. Our Christian faith has been the foundation of our very existence, and all that we are and have is grounded in God's Providence. The following excerpt from a sermon by John Piper sums up some of my thoughts about the purpose of my life: "Thou dost sweep men away; they are like a dream, like grass which is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and withers , So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90: 5, 6, 12). Numbering your days simply means remembering that your life is short and your dying will be soon. Great wisdom, great life-revolutionizing wisdom comes from periodically pondering these things. Part of that life-changing wisdom that comes from numbering our days is humility and yieldedness to the sovereignty of God. James wrote to an arrogant group of people among the churches and said, Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and get gain'; whereas you do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we shall live and we shall do this or that. As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.If we run away from the truth that we are a mist that appears a moment and then vanishes, if we try to keep this from our minds, then we will become arrogant and presumptuous. We will feel that we are the masters of our days and forget that every moment of life is owing to the free and sovereign will of God: "If the Lord wills we shall live " The last 40 years have literally 'flown' by...14,600 'days' to be 'numbered'..... God bless you all that I spent so many of those 'days' with! I'd love to hear from any who would care to e-mail me! | ||
