| Phillip Harter: Yikes, 40 years! After toiling mightily to pass through high school's arduous curricula I slithered off to undergraduate torment at Chico State and then graduate anguish at the University of Santa Clara . After Chico I began working in the electronics community of Silicon Valley . In that mission I was involved in the invention, design, prototyping and field testing of special purpose electronic devices. Field testing was particularly rewarding as tests were performed in nearly all countries of this globe. Often those exercises were during interesting times and under even more interesting conditions. I dabble in that mission to this day. While not fully unscathed, I escaped Silicon Valley and have dwelled in the Santa Cruz Mountains for the last 18 years. I am pleased to report that life in the mountains is much more agreeable to me than city dwelling. I am delighted to count the bushy-tailed squirrels, coyotes, mountain lions and flower bed dweller Mr. Toad amongst my friends and neighbors. Current activities include fishing, mountain bike excursions, hiking, greenhouse gardening, photography and lately competitive rifle matches. For a time I ran a salmon/albacore fishing boat out of Santa Cruz harbor. There are few thrills grander than having a simultaneous four line hook-up of 50 pound albacore tuna. However, one topper thrill is motoring back from 40 miles out in pea-soup fog, 12 foot swells and 6 foot wind waves with a 23 foot boat. I still enjoy fast cars and faster motorcycles. Oh, I nearly forgot -- I am with a lovely wife and two sons. I wish fair winds and following seas for you all. I remain, | ||
| George and Debbie (Smiley) Hoag: Not much has changed for us, the past 40 years, I'm still lucky to have Deb, and she continues to show a willingness to allow my good fortune to endure. After our marriage in 1971, I spent 4 years in the Air Force, the last in Korea , where Deb joined me so I wouldn't miss out on the birth of our first child (Mandy), in 1975. We then returned to Corning for several years, before moving to Orland in 1979. Our son, Alex, was born that year. We had a very rewarding life there for 20 years; with Deb staying home with the kids, while I continued my career in the olive business. Once the kids could fend for themselves, Deb started Selective Interiors with her mother, Bernadine. They did model home decorating for many years, and Deb continues in the business locally, with residential and commercial, since the housing industry imploded. We moved to Chico , to a very unique and quiet setting, just a few miles from town, in 1998. I left Musco Olive in 1999, to work for Bell-Carter. In 2002, I took my current position as Director of Operations for DeLallo Italian Foods, running a small specialty olive plant in Oroville. We have been blessed (so far) with three grandchildren. Mandy has a son, Blake, who is 9. They live in San Diego , but we see them frequently. Alex, and his wife, Jessica, have two beautiful little girls, Maddie (3), and Nikki (2). They live in a guest house just down the hill from us, which makes us all very happy, especially two somewhat spoiled little girls. Life is good. We have had our ups and downs, but couldn't really ask for more at this point in our lives. Hope to see you all in Oct! | ||
